A Cardinal painting is up for auction at Heffel Galleries in Montréal, Canada (Heffel.com). The painting is entitled, "Jagiello" and is dated 1982. It is a mixed media collage on canvas that measures 82.5 x 66 inches (209.6 x 167.6 cm). I left Montréal in August, 1981 and didn't return until three years later which is probably why I have no recollection of this painting. I can't think of any other painting by Marcelin that is so dominated by a whitish background. There is a light cream coloured, rectangular bar that extends below the centre line, a relatively small red rectangular area above that and a small, solid circle at the top of the painting that looks like it was cut from the open circle at the bottom (Fig. 1). There is also a small heart in the lower left corner of the painting (Fig. 2). Marcelin put these hearts on only a very few of his paintings from around this time. If you have the wall space for this painting, you may be able to acquire it at a very reasonable price. The auction closes on Thursday March 26, 2026.
